Before I became a full-time writer, I spent a lot of time in the military; specifically, the U.S. Army. A former major in the field artillery, I served on active duty, attended the Resident Officer Basic Course and, later, the Officer Advance Course followed by courses at the Command and General Staff College. I served in the National Guard in Virginia, and in the Army Reserve. Drawing on my years of service, I’ve taken a critical look at STAR WARS to discuss its military aspects: some of it works, and some of it doesn’t, but I had a lot of fun at looking critically at the battles that played out on screen.

In recent years, I’ve been asked by to contribute to books of essays or interviews about Stephen King, or to write another book on him. I have declined all requests, and will continue to do so. After publishing in 2015 The Stephen King Companion: Forty Years of Fear from the Master of Horror, with wonderful illustrations by Maine artist Glenn Chadbourne, and the incomparable Michael Whelan, I decided that it was time to let the young turks take over. I’ve got other books to write.

For those of you who have an interest in King’s work, my book, issued from Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Griffin, is 584 pages, and available in multiple editions (hardback, out of print; trade paperback; Kindle; and downloadable audio) from mainstream booksellers.
